When my six-year-old granddaughter, Samantha Washburn, began spending her vacations at the seashore, she wanted a “shell and sand quilt” that was “not like any other in the world.” Samantha was a published artist at age four and has a keen sense of color and design, so I entrusted this aspect of the endeavor to her.
